Invitations of India.

While walking through the last fort in Jaisalmer, India which is still inhabited by people, i came across paintings like this which i found interesting. A man explained to me that these painting are in fact wedding invitations. The indian traditions being completely different to that of ours here, instead of sending out paper invites the families of the couple paint an image (usually of their god) upon the side of their house, including text of the couples names and the date they shall be wed, this then allowing neighbours to become aware of the news. I thought this a really lovely idea, I’m unsure if i’ll ever get married or if it would be practical to paint an invitation on the side of my house here in England, but perhaps i’ll think more originally and culturally when making future invites.
